SHOW ENTRY RULES AND REGULATIONS
An orchid show presented by the Greater Cleveland Orchid Society will be held at the South Euclid Community Center, 1370 Victory Drive, S. Euclid, OH. 44121 on April 26-27, 2008.
Exhibitors may set up exhibits from 10:00 until 6:00pm on Friday, April 25. No entries will be accepted for judging after 5:00pm. Late entries may be exhibited, but not judged.
Neither the Greater Cleveland Orchid Society nor South Euclid Community Center is responsible for loss or damage to any plants, blooms, corsages, containers or other property of exhibitors. However, precaution will be exercised for their safety.
Reasonable effort will be made to provide the amount of exhibition space requested. Should available space be less than expected, the Show Committee reserves the right to limit space allocated to any exhibitor.
Each exhibitor agrees, upon making entry, to abide by the rules and regulations of the show.
The show will be open to the public on Saturday, April 26 from 11:00am until 5:00pm and on Sunday, April 27 from10:00am until 4:00pm.
Admission to the show is free, and there are no fees to exhibitors for entries or assistance in setting up the exhibits.
Exhibits must be left in place until show closing time at 4:00pm on Sunday, April 27.
All cards displaying exhibitor names will be provided by the GCOS. No other identification signs will be permitted.
Black backdrops for exhibits will be furnished by GCOS. Tables for exhibits must be furnished by the Exhibitor.
Foliage plants, moss, etc., may supplement exhibits, but no artificial or dyed moss or foliage of any kind will be permitted, with the exception of artificial grass used as a floor covering.
Running water is not allowed in the exhibit. Small pools and fountains are allowed and must be self-contained. Any leakage is the responsibility of the exhibitor.
A limited number of electrical outlets are available for use in the exhibit area. Extension cords and lighting used for effect is the responsibility of the exhibitor. Extension cords must be secured and covered with safety tape so as not to be a tripping hazard in walkways. The use of high intensity lights is prohibited.
All plants or cut flowers exhibited for competition must be properly labeled without identification of the owner until after judging. No dyed flowers will be permitted.
No cut flowers will be permitted in flowering plant exhibits, and no flowering plants will be permitted in cut flower exhibits.
A mericlone plant or cut flowers may not be entered as a seedling blooming for the first time. A mericlone is considered a vegetative division of the original plant and must be treated as such. If a plant is a mericlone, it should be so designated and the clonal name given.
For the purpose of this show schedule, the word "hybrid" means a cross made within the genus listed, unless preceded by the word 'intergeneric', in which case two or more different genera are used in the cross. The same exhibit cannot be entered in more than one class. An individual plant or cut flower cannot be entered in more than one class (except classes 112, 113 and 114), but may be part of an exhibit.

All exhibits, plants and cut flowers must be officially entered by class with the registration clerks to be considered for ribbon judging. Cut flowers and flowering plants shall be considered equally in judging.
Exhibitors are encouraged to register their plants and cut flowers online at www.gcos.org/registration.htm. Completed entry tags will be given to the exhibitor upon checking in with registration. For those unable to register online, blank entry forms will be available at registration booth.
For the purpose of this show, an amateur is defined as any person who has not sold more than a total of five hundred (500) plants and/or blooms in the past year.
Judging will begin at 8:00am on Saturday, April 26.
No one other than properly authorized persons will be permitted in the show area during judging.
There will be three (3) or more judges accredited by the American Orchid Society, Inc. The decision of these judges will be final.
All plants and cut flowers registered for ribbon judging will be considered eligible for AOS awards. Each person entering plants or flowers in the show agrees to accept any award given and to pay all relevant fees. If an exhibitor desires a plant not be considered for AOS judging, or if the plant has been entered in a previous show with the same flowering, it's registration tag must be marked 'not for AOS judging'.
First, second and third place ribbons may be awarded in each class at the discretion of the judges. Trophies will be awarded as designated. Judges have the authority to award or withhold any ribbon or trophy and may subdivide any class where warranted.
Judges and clerks are expected to familiarize themselves with the rules and regulations.
Improperly classified plants or exhibits may be reclassified if possible, or disqualified at the discretion of the judges.
The Show Committee reserves the right to remove inferior exhibits and/or plants at any time.
All questions regarding the interpretation of these rules or regulations shall be referred to the Show Chair, whose decision will be final.
Any class may be subdivided at the discretion of the judges.
All entry tags must be removed from all exhibits when judging is completed.
Any plants sold which are part of an exhibit shall not be removed before the show is closed.
The Greater Cleveland Orchid Society reserves the right to refuse entry by any commercial vendor, society or individual without regard to age, sex, race or national origin.
